Ultrasound during Pregnancy

Dr. Rajesh and Maneesh Uppal explain about ultrasound during pregnancy. How many and How often and what they really mean

In the National Health Policy, they’ve actually recommended only one scan between 18 to 20 weeks. But that is for the entire population combined whereas, in rural areas, even this scan is not available. But in the National Health Scheme, they have only recommended one, which is between 18 to 20 weeks to look for all the abnormalities of the babies. All scans depend upon the clinical problem.

If he’s suspecting of ectopic pregnancy, in the early first weeks, we need to do an urgent scan to look like that. What is the position of the pregnancy? Then I really do a scan at eight weeks to look for the heartbeat of the baby, the dating scan, to know what is the exact estimation date. Then we do have a local scan at 13 weeks, 12-13 weeks and then abnormalities scan between 18 to 20 weeks.

And then finally it all depends upon the gynecological position, but finally, one scan is normally recommended at around 36 weeks.
